(WXYZ) - A new counterterrorism device could change the way airport security and law enforcement officials keep us safe.
The company Thermal Matrix has produced what they call the ACT System. It is a concealed object threat detection system based on technology designed for use by the U.S. military in the war on terror.
ACT uses sophisticated sensors and computer technology to analyze individuals and whether thy are concealing guns, knives, bombs or other weapons.
The ACT system uses a camera and laptop which are able to detect if people are trying to conceal something by showing the body heat that is blocked underneath clothing. It records video and can pinpoint who is trying to cover something up without invading a person's privacy.
Unlike the new full body scanners in airports currently, ACT does not show a person's body or skin. ACT is also perfect for monitoring large crowds at concerts or sporting events.
The Homeland Security Department is looking at using ACT systems and so are local enforcement agencies all across the country.
