Authorities: 4 police killed in Afghan blast |
KANDAHAR, Afghanistan (AP) — Police say a roadside blast in southern Afghanistan has killed four policemen and a suicide bomber has wounded two people at a checkpoint.
Police official Khan Mohammad in Kandahar province says the blast struck a patrol in Maywand district on Saturday. He says four policemen were killed and another was wounded.
Separately, police official Mohammad Nabi Khan says a suicide bomber attacked a police checkpoint near the main NATO base just outside Kandahar city.
Khan says a child and a policeman were wounded.
Southern Afghanistan is the center of the Taliban-led insurgency.
