Afghan governor survives second attack |
| The governor of the western Afghan province of Nimroz has survived a suicide attack, which left five people from his convoy dead. |
Governor Ghulam Dastageer Azad was on his way back after inspecting a road project in Zaranj when a suicide attacker jumped over his convoy and detonated explosives strapped to his body.
"Three of my bodyguards and two civilians were martyred," Azad said shortly after the incident.
He said the attacker first threw a hand grenade on the road and when his motorcade slowed down the suicide bomber jumped on one of his escort vehicles.
Five other civilians and three police officers were also wounded in the attack.
No one has so far claimed responsibility for the attack; however, the governor blamed the Taliban for the attempted on his life.
Azad escaped a suicide attack last month in which his son and six of his bodyguards were killed. That attack was claimed by the Taliban.
