Concealed Weapons and Facial Recognition |
Law Enforcement agencies have turned to Thermal Matrix for a variety of applications including concealed weapons detection and facial recognition systems.
In the past, facial recognition systems employed standard cameras and concentrated on the delicate mathematical relationships between the eyes, nose, and mouth.
Unfortunately contorting the face can easily cause these systems to fail.
Today, experts in the field of facial recognition have learned the value of using infrared sensors.
Infrared sensors capture a thermal image of the face which acts much like a fingerprint.
The correlation of the eye, nose and mouth are still a large factor, but contortion or deliberate attempts to cause the system to fail are thwarted since the heat signature in these areas remains unchanged despite a subject’s best attempts.
